Next Meeting of the South Berwick Democrats

Join us for the next meeting of the South Berwick Democrats on Thursday, January 4th at 6pm.

If you are grateful that South Berwick is represented by a Democrat in Augusta, join the January meeting to learn some very easy ways to help make sure we keep our representation in the 2024 election.

We will discuss easy ways to help our elected officials as well as continue the planning discussions started at our December meeting.

February caucus is right around the corner and we’re excited to welcome in new volunteers!

It’s a great morning to be a South Berwick Democrat!

The results from yesterday’s election prove that South Berwick wants to send representatives to Augusta who have demonstrated their strong commitment to serving the best interest of District 149 and 150. They lead with facts, common sense, and respect for their constituents and the will of the voters.

A big congrats to our State Representatives Tiffany Roberts and Michele Meyer and State Senator Mark Lawrence, US Representative Chellie Pingree, and Governor Janet Mills on their respective victories at the polls yesterday. We are lucky to have them representing us in Augusta and Washington DC!

For those who are looking for results on town ballot: Jeff Minihan and Melissa Costella will serve as our town councilors and Questions 1 & 2 passed with 78% approval.

It’s a great morning indeed.

South Berwick Candidates Forum 2022 Recap

There is only 1 week until Election Day! If you were not able to attend or watch the South Berwick Candidate Forum, I have included a link to the recording below.

It is 2 hours long – but I strongly encourage you to watch the recording and share it with your South Berwick neighbors!

I would be interested to learn what stood out to those who attended or watched, here are 3 key my takeaways

  • Strong town council candidates
  • The Republican candidate for District 150, Michele Meyer’s opponent, did not even show! He has no website or facebook page, so we have no idea where he stands on the issues…
  • The alarming answers from the 2 Republican candidates in attendance to the question regarding access to reproductive healthcare.
    • Question: “Maine law currently allows women to access contraceptives and abortion services if they choose to do so. Do you think Maine law should continue to ensure that women have this access?”
      • Answer from Julie Rakic, candidate challenging Mark Lawrence for SD35, minute mark 1:52: “Politicians and the media have hyper sensationalized this issue for the midterms because they have little else to run on”
      • Answer from Mark Rouillard, candidate challenging Tiffany Roberts for HD149, minute mark 1:17: “we should all have the right to our own autonomy…this is our god given right and let no one take this away from us. However, we can agree that taxpayers should not be funding abortion especially when big dollars are being paid for the fetuses. It is a big money racket”
      • Follow the link to listen to all of the candidates’ views on abortion

I hope everyone can make time to learn more about the candidates who are running for office. Follow this link to watch the full recording.

If you’d prefer, you can watch the individual clips of each legislative candidate, or an overview of (in this blogger’s opinion) one of the most critical issues at hand, follow the links are below.

Let’s Re-Elect Governor Janet Mills

Governor Mills Officially Launched Her Re-election Campaign Today

Today, Governor Mills officially kicked off her re-election campaign with a video announcement posted to her campaign website. Since taking office in 2019, Governor Mills has taken on the biggest challenges facing Maine people and delivered the progress that Maine people deserve. Mills’ notable accomplishments include the expansion of Medicaid to cover an additional 90k+ Maine residents, guiding Maine to a historic budget surplus, and enacting a plan to reach carbon neutrality by 2045 – all while navigating a pandemic where Maine has achieved one of the highest vaccination rates and lowest death rates in the nation. And, as she said in her announcement video, there is so much more progress yet to come.

Let’s Re-Elect These Democrats!

We’re so happy to report that our State Representatives Michele Meyer and Tiffany Roberts, as well as our State Senator Mark Lawrence, each announced this month that they will run for re-election. We’ve got their back this November!
